Let’s talk Bodystockings!

Anyone into fashion, beauty and music would have seen Jennifer Lopez’s steamy performance of “Pa’ Ti’’ with Maluma at the 2020 AMAs. JLo at the age of 51 is not only stunning but she can rock a Catsuit which inevitably made a sensation out of the night. If you missed it, you can watch it here!

The catsuit JLo was wearing was designed by fashion designer LaQuan Smith for which the ‘Off the Shoulder Sheer and Velvet Catsuit’ made its appearance back in February in Vogue magazine featuring in the Fall 2020, Ready-to-Wear article → check it out here on slide 23! Although it is described as a catsuit my observations is that the sheerness of it reflects much similar to fabrics used to make bodysuits.

On stage, part of JLo’s performance was enhanced with lighting giving a striped, shadow effect, for those you into instagram, you will know that the shadows and light effects can be a photographers dream and has done the rounds on the boudoir and sensual feeds. With play on stripes shadowed on the body (like Lexy Parcs, here) and with lace curtain shadow pattern on nudes like a layer of skin (check it out here).

With all this in mind my thoughts wonder to the bodystocking and how lingerie can be used to reflect contemporary art and sensuality. This garment is so overlooked and I come to the conclusion that this is because bodystockings are thought of as the type of garment only for sexual pleasure, however, this is so far from the truth.

Sultry Look with BodystockingWhilst many styles do reflect this persona, here, at MillieWonders, we believe that with an eye to style lingerie as outerwear or even daring enough to wear lingerie as fashion items, a bodystocking is a must have item for the wardrobe. Playing with sex appeal and comfort level, there is a lot of fun to have with these garments and since it is winter adding extra layers will keep us warm and looking hot!

For a black, sultry mood, a combination of bodysuits, faux leather, a bodystocking and pearls for accessories are fab way to pull off a luscious look. Start with a plain black bodysuit or soft corset and pull the bodystocking on top. Now here is the thing about going crotchless, you can wear your panties over the bodystocking so when you are out it makes going to the bathroom easy.   All that’s left is a faux leather skirt. A short, A-line skirt would make a good match or choose something that that is comfortable to wear. There is no need to wear tights as the bodystocking covers your legs.  Accessorise with pearls of whatever takes your fancy, add some smokey eyes, a few bouncy curls and the look is complete!

Bodystocking BlackBoho Chic Style Bodystocking

When there is no shame to show off bras, a simple yet adorable creation can be made. Throw a lacey bodystocking over a favourite lingerie set and just add a pair of shorts for flirty fun or even a pair of evening trousers for a little sophistication. This would be perfect for hot date!

Need a little boho chic in your life ? How about a white bodystocking with a floral pattern for some flower power vibes. This would look great with light coloured jeans, just add a neutral toned lingerie set underneath and cover up with a jacket for colder days.

Lace Bodystocking BlackThere’s nothing more special when there is a desire for some bedroom fun but still want to maintain a little classy element to the style. The go to element here will be lace. Even a bodystocking can look sophisticated when worn with nothing else. Add some diamonds and pearls and start playing those fine tunes.Rock Chic Glam Style Bodystocking

When you got the feels for some rock-chic glamour, you can’t go wrong with fishnets!
Whether it’s ordinary fishnet, larger holed fishnet or a combination of fishet and patterns,
the choices are unlimited. Long sleeved, short sleeved, a dress style or halter neck,
rocking some glamour is probably the most exciting way to use bodystockings as
lingerie outerwear. Match it up with jeans, leather jackets, studs and boots and rock that look!

And finally make use of your corsets and even try a little baroque style with long, full skirts. Not daring enough to take baroque to its fullest? Go with plain metallic skirts instead which is perfect for the festive season. First you would need to choose the right corset, we recommend one that covers the bust and has removable suspenders straps as you would not need them.

Baroque style with BodystockingPut on the bodystocking first, add the corset over the bodystocking and wear the skirt over the corset. An off the shoulder bodystocking that sits well on the edge of the shoulders and with long sleeves would work well for a baroque stylisation. Add a choker or some jewels to emphasise the neck area to complete the look.

Lastly, have some fun! How you wear them and how you style them depends mostly on your comfort level, preferences and where you are going. For parties, carnivals, dress ups you can really have fun with this style and even if you need formal wear, simplicity is the key to keeping the look sophisticated. Go on, let your hair and try it out sometime, who knows you might awaken your fantasies or even a special someone.
